I am delighted to announce that we have successfully renewed our Eco-Schools Green Flag Award status for the 6th time!! This is an outstanding achievement and we are so pleased and proud of our hard work and effort.  Congratulations to everyone!

I very much enjoyed reading your application and wish to congratulate you on successfully renewing your Green Flag status. I thought your photographs showcased well all the wonderful environmental work going on in school and was impressed by the efforts of your Pupil Voice Groups to control litter, minimise waste and water consumption and increase the biodiversity of the local area. Well done! Eco is well-integrated into the curriculum and calendar via classwork in the STEM subjects, Art and Design and your participation in the John Muir Award, as well as through events such as your Green Santa enterprise, your participation in our One Planet Picnic and your Science, Walk and Bike to School Weeks. Learning is also taken outwith the campus, as illustrated by the good use you have made of your neighbouring woodland and wildflower meadow as natural resources to enrich pupils’ experiences. Throughout, you have monitored progress well through surveys and photographic evidence, and have shared your successes with the wider school community via assemblies, newsletters, the Eco-Schools’ Noticeboard, the school website and your Twitter feed. In addition, you have forged strong partnerships with groups and organisations such as the Country Park Rangers’ Service, Midlothian Waste Aware Team, IBike Midlothian and Penicuik Estate, who have shared their expertise and resources with you. You are also to be commended for your awareness-raising of Fairtrade in school. Next time round, you will be able to renew your Green Flag status via our new, online system. We would also invite you to choose one of the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals on which to focus, alongside your ongoing environmental work. This will allow you to explore the global dimension of the Eco-Schools’ programme. Fantastic effort, everyone!
