This is the first time that Cornbank Primary has been involved with such an exciting initiative and our pupils have thoroughly enjoyed the Rookie Rockstar sessions this week.
RookieAs per the recent flyer distributed, there will be 2 concerts on Tuesday evening – one at 5.30pm for the Eagles and Falcons and the second at 7pm for the Kites and Ospreys.  Tickets are available for purchase and are priced at £5 per adult and under 5 years go free.  There is no cost for any pupil who chooses to perform on the evening and there is no requirement for your child to take part if they do not wish to.
Those taking part in the concert are free to wear their own clothes or can dress in a rock style if they wish.  Eagles and Falcons should arrive for their house concert just before 5.30pm and Kites and Ospreys just before 7pm.  Each concert will last approx 45mins and there will be time afterwards to purchase the recorded CD and any Rookie Rockstars merchandise.

Walk to School Week – 16th – 20th May

Week commencing 16th May is our next Walk to School Week.

On the Tuesday of that week (17th), we’re having HAPPY SHOESDAY and asking pupils to wear their favourite, brightest, happiest shoes to school.  We’d like to ask you to support your child and encourage you to join in with them on this day.

We hope pupils enjoy taking part and that participation levels are good!

Statement Regarding Our School Buildings

We anticipate that parents, carers and local residents will be aware that some Edinburgh schools are currently closed while structural investigations are carried out.

We confirm that none of our school buildings were built by the same contractor responsible for the Edinburgh PPI schools in question and we would like to take the opportunity to stress our continued commitment to ensuring the safety of everyone using school buildings in Midlothian.

Maintenance building inspections of all our schools are carried out on an ongoing basis.  A full survey of our school estate was completed after the tragic incident at Liberton High School in Edinburgh.  No structural issues were identified.  We have had two independent condition surveys carried out at our PPP1 schools (Dalkeith Schools Community Campus) in the last three years and annual independent condition surveys are carried out at our PPP2 schools (8 primary schools).  In addition to this, Midlothian Council and PPP Facilities Management staff have an ongoing monitoring regime in place to ensure that any defects are identified and addressed. This includes inspections and monthly meetings with senior school staff and our PPP contractors.

Further inspections of our own estate also started in March 2016, in response to the situation in Edinburgh, and are due to finish on Tuesday 12 April.  A formal process is in place which allows immediate repairs to a school building, including isolating the area if there are health and safety concerns.

The safety of our pupils, staff and building users are our highest priority and if anyone has any concerns please don’t hesitate to contact:

The Big Bedtime Read

We are looking to start Midlothian’s Big Bedtime Read in our nursery and we need your help!

The aim of the Big Bedtime Read is that every Midlothian child under 5 will be read to by a significant adult at least 4 nights a week as part of their bedtime routine.

So how can you help??

Do you have any old books suitable for early years which your child has outgrown and are happy to donate to the school?

If so, we would be delighted to take these off your hands.

Please hand into the school office by Friday 29th April.

Thank you for your support.

Mrs Stevenson
Acting Depute Head Teacher
