2 SCOTS MARCH PAST, PENICUIK 10 JUNE 2016

On Friday 10th June 2 SCOTS will exercise their right as Honorary Freemen of Penicuik to march through the town.

The Royal Highland Fusiliers, the Second Battalion, The Royal Regiment of Scotland (“2 Scots”) is a light role infantry battalion based in Glencorse Barracks in Penicuik.  The Battalion prides itself on its professionalism and soldiering excellence and is part of 51 Infantry (Scottish) Brigade. By the time of the march, 2 Scots will have just returned from 8 months of operations in Kabul, where the Battalion has been supporting the UK’s commitment to the NATO peace-keeping mission.  This was the Battalion’s fourth and final deployment to Afghanistan.

There will be around 400 Members of 2 SCOTS in the procession and it will include a Military Band and a Pipe Band. The march will be lead by Cruachan, the regimental pony.

They will muster at the Eastfield Industrial Estate, and proceed at around 11.45am via Edinburgh Road, John Street, Kentigern Way, High Street, past the Cowan Institute and Town Hall where the salute will be taken by Provost Wallace and on into West Street and Bog Road.  The event is open to members of the public.

In recognition of the close relationship between the Battalion and the town of Penicuik, it has been agreed across the Beeslack and Penicuik primary schools that we will release pupils early that day should families wish to attend the procession.

If you would like to take your child to the parade please complete and return the permission slip recently issues.  Please note, they must be collected by an adult.

Yours sincerely,

Mrs S Bowen
